Original art by Eleanor Spring
Whilst I was fairly quiet and felt very awkward at high school and some stages of university, I got an enormous release and confidence boost through becoming involved in theatre. The skills I learnt there enabled me to develop a flair for delivering talks about science to a variety of audiences.
Talks
I have delivered talks relating to science outreach in the Scotland, Germany and the Netherlands, to a range of audiences. These include:
‘Press Officers and Other Animals’ delivered 22 March 2018 at the Anton Pannekoek Instituut (API)
A public talk marking the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, held at Amsterdam Science Park
‘Fantastic Worlds and Where to Find Them’ delivered 2019 at the Anton Pannekoek Instituut (API)
Upcoming Talks
Upcoming talks will be listed here.
No talks planned just now. Stay tuned!
Education
They say to never work with children or animals. It is definitely challenging to work with children and teenagers, but it is also one of the most invigorating and rewarding things I do!
Hosting evenings for the Edinburgh branch of the Pint of Science events (in English)
Public tours of the ESO Supernova during the opening weeks of the exhibit (in English)
Public tours of the Anton Pannekoek Instituut during stargazing nights (in English/ Dutch)
Assisting with Girls’ Day events in Amsterdam (ostensibly in Dutch, until it became clear their English was much better than my Dutch at the time!)
Delivering simple talks in Amsterdam-based primary schools (in Dutch)
Delivering tours for school groups at the Amsterdam Science Park (in English/ Dutch)
Offering voluntary tuition at Edinburgh based schools (in English)
